Every human being should endeavour consistently polishing our heart, through constant cleansing for the improvement of quality worship towards Allah The Almighty. These account for sincerity and truthfulness in performing whatever good deed for the sake of The Almighty - The One and Only worthy of worship.
The inner self is more importance to achieve being the best quality of a Muslim.To have and attain the knowledge being purity in "ibadah" and other good deeds, one's must persue the knowledge of Tassawuf, so with potraying the genuiness of piousness in "Akhlaq" towards Allah Rabbul Jalil and his fellow being.
No other way to achieve perfection in 'Ibadah' without cleansing the inner self or "Batin". Though despite being goods in your physical religous practices - without "Taqwa", "Sabr"and sincerity in our deeds are worthless in the eye of Allah Rabul Jalil. Without sincerity and truthfulness in intention one's may be easily deviated.
Such deviation is "Riya" of wanting from the heart clouded with nafs in performing ibadah just to show off or display to others. Where the purity of intention is not achieve, because the deeds performs are not for the sake of Allah Rabul Jalalluh.
Another deviation of "niat" or intention is "Taqqabur", the whispering nafs of syaitan, feeling the best and superior then others, yet another sign a disease of the heart.
