The Spiritual Damage to Our Heart
Indeed, the damage, accident, and destruction of a person are caused by his spiritual damage. This is because the human heart is like a king who rules and issues orders whose orders and instructions will be obeyed. If the king is not good then he will order something bad and the order will be implemented. Likewise, the heart where if the heart is not good then it will issue bad instructions that will be implemented by its members. Reflecting on the guidance of Rasulullahﷺ in his words can reveal this fact. Rasulullahﷺ said:
اَلَاْ وَاِنَّ فِيْ الْجَسَدِ مُضْغَةً اِذَاْ صَلُحَتْ صَلُحَ
الْجَسَدُ كلّهُ وَاِذَاْ فَسَدَتْ فَسَدَ الْجَسَدُ ُلُهُ
The meaning: Know that in the human body there is a blood
clot, if it is good then the whole body is good and if it is damaged then the
whole body is damaged, know, that is the heart.
It is not what is meant by the heart (Qalb) here, which is
the heart or the heart which is a clot of blood that is in the chest cavity on
the left side of a person. What is meant here is the human spirit. According to
the testimony of Iman al-Ghazali in some of his works, especially Ihya' 'Ulum
al-Din, the spirit has a special relationship with the humane nature of mankind.
Indeed, the damage that occurs on the face of the earth is the result of the actions of humans themselves, which are caused by the damage and weakness of their hearts. Arrogance, gluttony, insanity towards the world, and malice are the reasons for enmity among humans.
Criminal incidents such as
robbery, murder, kidnapping, fraud, rape, and others and immoral incidents such
as adultery, drinking alcohol, gambling, and so on, are caused by the corruption
of the human heart. Human damage caused by this broken heart will lead to damage to society and further the damage and destruction of the human race that
inhabits this earth in addition to the destruction of the material civilization
that they have built over a long period of time. Allahﷻ has said hinting
at this fact as in His words:
ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبْ اَيْدِي النَّاسِ لِيُذيقَهُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِي عَمِلُوا لَعَلَّهُمْ
يَرجُِونَ
"The meaning: Damage has appeared on the land and sea because
of what has been done by human hands so that Allah will make them feel (as a
reward for) the happiness (mistakes) they have done, hopefully, they will return
(to the path of Allahﷻ)".
