The Purpose Creation of Man
Everything that is made must have a purpose. Allahﷻ does
not make a creature in vain without any purpose. Indeed, humans are the noblest of all created beings. Its creation definitely contains a certain meaning
or purpose. Al-Quran has stated that the creation of man is for the purpose of
self-devotion (`Ubudiyyah) to Allahﷻ. This fact can be seen in the words
of Allahﷻ:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
"Meaning: And I (Allah) did not create the jinn and humans
except so that they worship (enslave themselves) to Me.[4]"
Self-devotion ('Ubudiyyah) cannot be achieved without a
person knowing (ma`rifat) his creator. With reason alone, man is not able to
recognize his God and further devote himself to Him. That is why Allahﷻ has sent the messengers to mankind from among themselves to introduce them to their
God so that they can devote themselves to Him. This statement can be seen
explained in the Qur'an as Allahﷻ says:
"And the Messenger of God, That means; Verily, We (Allah) have sent to every nation a messenger (who called them to) devote themselves to Allahﷻ and shun injustice."
But there are many obstacles or obstacles that prevent people
from achieving the essence of self-devotion ('Ubudiyyah). A person's Ubudiyyah
will be handicapped by the existence of these obstacles. Therefore, in order to
achieve the perfection of this maqam `Ubudiyyah, a person is required to try to
remove those obstacles until he succeeds in achieving the purpose of his
creation.
